The purpose of the Board is to look into complaints about attorneys licensed in the state of New Mexico to determine whether the attorney has violated the Rules of Professional Conduct, which are part of the New Mexico Statutes. The Board is funded through fees paid annually by lawyers as part of the state bar dues assessed against attorneys licensed in this state. The Board is not supported by taxes or other public money.
